Potpourri in a Bowl

Potpourri in a Bowl

My Mom, Arlene, does the neatest things. She always tries to say that she is not creative, and the stuff she does turns out dumb. Well she couldn’t be more wrong. Just look at this!

This bowl sits quietly on the end table next to a guest chair. It shares the space with pictures of her two cats, Cleo and Smokey. Also gracing the table is a candle with one of her favorite inspiring phrases.

Is this not beautiful! Is this not creative! It certainly isn’t dumb. And it smells good to boot.

This gorgeous display can be yours too if you feel like making it.  It’s awesomeness will enhance the awesomeness of your home. Put it out when you are expecting company or just do it for yourself. We all need some simple elegance in our lives, and this fits the bill.

You can put in whatever dried flowers you want, and you don’t have to use a glass bowl. I love the glass, however, since you can see the beauty from all sides and angles.  Peer through the glass and see all the pretties that Arlene put in there!

Here is how to make Arlene’s bowl.

Ingredients:

  • Cedar Shavings
  • *Nature Fix
  • Rose Petals
  • Rose Hips
  • Hibiscus Flowers
  • Lavender Buds
  • Dried Orange Peel
  • Star Anise
  • Acorns
  • Pine Cones
  • Cinnamon Sticks
  • Essential Oil

What you’ll need:

  • Glass jar that you can seal tightly. Airtight is preferred
  • Glass or ceramic bowl to place on table

Directions:
In glass jar combine desired amount of Nature Fix and essential oil. Recommended ratio is 4 ml fragrance or essential oil per cup of Nature Fix.
Seal, shake a little and let sit for a minimum of two hours.
Combine scented Nature Fix and all other ingredients in a glass container. Use 1 Tablespoon of scented Nature Fix per cup of potpourri.
Stir or shake to mix. For garnish, you may want to reserve some of the larger ingredients such as pine cones, acorns, star anise, and cinnamon sticks.
Transfer to your glass display bowl. Arrange reserved ingredients on top.

Your bowl is ready for display!  Enjoy.

*Nature Fix is an all natural fixative that holds the scent of your potpourri making it last longer. It’s porous structure soaks up any fragrance or essential oil you’d like to use in your potpourri creations or sachets. It makes a good substitute for other fixatives like benzoin and orris root as these can be cause allergic reactions. Nature Fix highly efficient at keeping your favorite scent fresh, and 100% natural and non-toxic.

  3. I’ve been looking for a recipe to make potpourri with my nature fix. Brambleberry doesn’t sell it anymore so there’s no info there so THANK YOU! My question is when you say 4ml fragrance for every cup of nature fix & potpourri, do you mean by weight or by volume?
